Christians often will do individual confession of sin, or will pray for the sins of others, asking God to judge their evil. But a third scenario is when a godly person asks God to forgive a sinful people or nation, but he also includes himself in the mix.
   I just read another example of this today with the prayer of Daniel for his people as found in Daniel 9:3-19. The first three verses go like this:
Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and made confession, saying, “O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules. We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.
   Of interest is how often we find Daniel using the words “us” and “we” and “our” in these 17 verses. He is not pointing the finger at ‘them’ but at everyone, himself included. That is real humility. That is real identification with the people. That is having a godly heart and a willingness to fully relate to the people.  Read it all...  Image

She framed homelessness and mental illness as public health issues requiring "compassion and treatment," while asserting that the city’s transit system remains "mostly safe."
   This kind of gutless political correctness, where the needs of innocent victims are swept under the rug for the sake of compassion and empathy for the perpetrators is exactly why crime has soared in blue cities, and why Americans feel increasingly unsafe.

Earlier this year, medical researchers from the University of Texas published the results of a bombshell study documenting the mental health impact of so-called “gender-affirming” surgery.  The study included nearly 110,000 male and female patients who were eighteen or older and diagnosed with gender dysphoria.  Among those patients observed, some underwent surgery, and some did not.
   The results were clear: Two years after surgery, those who “transitioned” had “significantly higher” rates of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation.  This was true for both males and females.

Naturally, everyone is furious.  From 2021 to early 2025, Guyatt and his research collaborators systematically reviewed the evidence as to whether various “gender-affirming” interventions actually deliver psychological, psychiatric, or physical benefits to gender-distressed children and youth; and whether such benefits outweigh the attendant risks. It’s a classic application of the evidence-based methodology that Guyatt has championed for decades. Spoiler alert: As anyone who’s followed this issue in recent years might have predicted, Guyatt’s team, led by McMaster Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact scholar Romina Brignardello-Petersen, found that the available medical evidence supporting transition therapies is generally of low quality.

And that we take on board the many teachings in Scripture about how, where and when we speak. Can we not learn to disagree well? Those of us who are conflict averse need to be careful that we are not afraid to speak directly rather than engage in indirect speech (gossip). Those of us who seem to be conflict-driven need to repent of our aggressive speech and learn to follow the One who spoke strongly but was also gentle.
   It’s a minefield for speaker/writer and hearer/reader alike. But one we have to traverse. We need to bear in mind the ninth commandment and the fact that those who “love and practice falsehood” are outside the city (Rev.21v15). Perhaps every time we write, or engage in a significant conversation, we should pray – “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Ps.19v14).

    Pray without ceasing!
